The Journey of Lori Schappe-Youens
Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Lori Schappe-Youens began her creative journey in the Midwest, where she studied Fine Art and Botany at the University of Wisconsin. Her passion for art led her to open a fine art gallery in Michigan, where she worked for seven years, cultivating her craft and building connections within the art community.
In 1993, Lori moved to South Africa, drawn by its vibrant energy and transformative spirit during a historic period of change. Immersed in this new environment, she embraced her calling as a painter, developing a distinctive style that blends the Anthropomorphic and Figurative genres. Her works, influenced by both her American roots and South African experiences, reflect a deep exploration of emotion, identity, and connection.
After nearly two decades in South Africa, Lori returned to Madison in 2012, where she continues to paint and raise her two children. Balancing her time between the U.S. and South Africa, Lori’s art bridges these two worlds, resonating with collectors globally. Her journey is one of transformation, resilience, and unwavering creativity, expressed through the vibrant narratives that define her work.
